Three years down… So this little blog that could keeps chuggin’ along.
What to look for in 2011 from Bay Area Foodie: Maui madness in March, a 5 year wedding anniversary French Laundry dinner in July (if I can get a reservation), 4th of July in Carmel and a Boston Bonanza in August. Plus, we’re trying to lose weight by exercising more (Goal =5k in October) and eating right (when not on vacation ) so I’m subscribing to Cooking Light Magazine. Get ready for some healthy recipes.
I’m gonna leave you with my favorite photo of this month. Edison in much anticipation of eating his first “new and improved” Sprinkles doggie cupcake. The cakes are just like the real deal – soft and smell of vanilla. The old kind was solid as a rock. I know for sure they are made in-house now not sure if the previous version was outsourced or they just overhauled the recipe…either way Ed loves them!
Humans weren’t the only ones who got a holiday treat this year. I made Rachael Ray’s Peanut-Carob Isabooscotti for Edison and all his little buddies. This was really easy to make. The only problem I had was melting the carob. As soon as the chips became soft they would instantly turn into a hard ball. I tried the microwave and stovetop with the same results so we ended up with very little carob but Ed didn’t seem to mind. He ate them up!
Since Mr. Ed doesn’t eat people food we sometimes worry that treats like these can wreak havoc on his system but everything was solid ….if you know what I mean…TMI?
Another exciting episode with Edison… Sprinkles is not only for humans…I totally forgot to blog about the doggie cupcakes. We have bought these for him a couple times. He likes them but they take some time and effort to eat…
We celebrate Edison’s birthday on New Years day. He was a pound dog so we don’t know his exact birth date but this is easy to remember. For his sixth “b” day we gave him blueberry & vanilla bean yöghund (organic doggy frozen yogurt). It was cold and solid as a rock but that didn’t stop him from licking until it was gone (it took a good 5-7 minutes for him to finish).
HAPPY NEW YEAR from the team at Bay Area Foodie: Nicole, Mike and Edison!
No way were we gonna pass up getting Edison Foie gras and ketchup dog biscuits from the Bouchon bakery in Napa. The combination sounded utterly disgusting but it’s Thomas Keller. These have to be the ultimate dog treat. As I opened the package I gave the biscuits a sniff and they weren’t half bad so I took a little nibble. I don’t know why, maybe because I have not had Foie gras before and I was curious. Anyhoo, it tasted good. Nothing like duck liver…
While standing at the check out counter at Summer Winds Garden Center I saw a small display of Ma snax organic dog cake mix. It was a weird location to sell dog treats, but I thought I’d give them a try. I wasn’t about to bake a big cake for Edison (our 105 pound black lab mix) as he would make a total mess, so instead I made carob-peanut cupcakes with peanut butter frosting.
I tried taking a picture of Edison as he ate a cupcake but as soon as we gave it to him it was devoured, so I decided to make my first video blog. Here is Mr. Ed chowing down. He loves these little dense cupcakes!
